New Buffalo, Michigan || Travel Style

I am missing the weekend big time but keep telling myself we are halfway there.
My husband & I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary in Michigan this past weekend. We left on Saturday afternoon & drove along the coast of Lake Michigan until we reached Holland.
Stopping at coffee shops & cute boutiques along the way.
How beautiful are these houses in this picture?
I was swooning the WHOLE time.

Our first stop was New Buffalo, Michigan. We wanted to go walk the beach & have a bite to eat at The stray dog, which we've heard so many good things about. You always know its going to be good when there is a big wait. So get there early & give yourself some time to wait because it is worth it. We had so much fun.

Side-note... So blessed to have a mom who is willing to watch my two crazy boys.
I can't say thank you enough.

When it comes to traveling my thought behind my outfits are something practical, comfy, & cute because you know you will have to be ready to take pictures at anytime. I chose a comfortable cardigan that I purchased from Target this year. I love wearing a thicker cardigans for these colder months because I don't know about you, but I hate having a thick puffy jacket while riding in the car for longer periods of time.

These shoes were one of my Black Friday finds. I found them at Nordstrom rack for $40 more than half off of what they were at Nordstrom when I first had my eyes on them. What are the odds, on top of that they were my size. That never happens. They are so comfortable, and neutral so they go with everything. I can't wait to style these more. I see them with a cute dress in the future. (:

I usually try to pair a piece of statement jewelry with a simple outfit like this. I love the look it gives & just adds that much more. This is one of my favorite rings right now. It's from Stella & Dot, which is new to me but they have some amazing quality pieces. Unfortunately, this ring is being discontinued but a plus for me because I bought it at a very reasonable price. I linked it down below. Get it before its gone for good.

As always, Thanks for stopping by!
Hope you had a great day!

7 things for 7 years of marriage.

Happy Monday to you..
&
Happy 7th wedding anniversary to my husband and I.
7 years, 1 dog, 2 kids & 6 moves later.
It's crazy to me how fast time flies, when your in the moment it can feel like time is moving slow but when you look back on special dates like today for us it's like, wow I feel like I just blinked.

I thought I would share some advice that was either given to me or my own advice on marriage of my short 7 years.
I also thought I would have you reminisce with me by showing you a few photos of my wedding day back on November 28th, 2009...

Photos by Michelle Hamstra Photography

1. Prayer. The strongest thing you could ever do as a couple is pray together. There are things that have come up where all you can ever do was pray. Pray for your marriage. It's not easy.  God knows that. Any good marriage that you hear lasting 60 plus years always has Christ at the center.

2. Forgiveness. I cannot stress this enough. My marriage wouldn't have even lasted through the first year without the power of forgiveness.
Forgiveness from God, your spouse, & forgiving yourself.

3. Choose to love. Our world has this so mixed up. I feel like today, its all about how you feel & what you deserve. A marriage that lasts doesn't work like that. When you say those vows in front of your friends, family, & God. You are saying I choose to love this person through better or worse. Just because you might not feel like loving one day and those feelings have diminished a little because you've gotten into an argument, that doesn't mean a your on the road to a divorce. You choose to love that person daily. It's not always a feeling but more like a decision to stick by that person day in & day out.

4. Seek advice from older couples. I realized this at the beginning of our marriage. I would talk to my single friends about struggles we've had or arguments we've gotten into. Although they would give me pretty good advice, I got to thinking why am I not going to older couples that have probably walked this road once or twice before, that would be able to show me how they overcame the problem with their spouse.

5.Love & Respect. If you have never read the book Love & Respect by Dr. Emerson Eggerichs, I highly recommend it.  I will link it here. Bottom line.. Men like to feel respected and women like to feel loved. If the man doesn't feel respected than he won't show love to his wife. If the wife doesn't feel loved than she won't show respect to her husband. It's an endless cycle.

6. Compromise. What's marriage without a little give & take. You will learn this real fast in the beginning. I'm still learning 7 years in. I thought I knew Brent before I got married but I am still learning something new each day.

7. Communication is key. This one I'm still learning so I'm not much help but I will say miscommunication is probably 90% of our arguments. No joke. I've talked with couples who have been married for 30 years and they are still working on how to communicate better. It's always a learning process. A process that is so worth it in the end.

One more thing... Laugh together & laugh often.
Whether it be at each other or with each other.

I wanted to remind you guys that I am not a marriage expert by any means nor do I have the most perfect marriage but I am proud of the things I've learned along the way.
Proud enough to want to share them with you.

I also wanted to say Thank you to my husband for sticking by me.  I don't know how you do it but you manage to make me feel like the most beautiful & important person in your life.
I love doing this life with you.
Here's to 7 years under our belt & many more.

Pumpkin Pie Crunch. A last minute Thanksgiving dessert recipe.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve Everyone.

Here's a quick, last minute Thanksgiving dessert recipe for you.
This is one of my Husbands favorites.
My Mother in law makes this for him every time we come into town for Thanksgiving.  Since we switch off every other year going to Texas, on our years we stay in Indiana I like to make this just so Brent has that "little piece of home feeling" on Thanksgiving. This is a tad bit different than your normal pumpkin pie but thats why I like it. Plus it is so simple.

Pumpkin Pie Crunch

Ingredients

1 (16 ounce) can solid pack pumpkin

1 (12 ounce) can evaporated milk.

3 eggs

1 1/4 cups sugar  (I only use 1 cup)

4 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 box yellow cake mix

1 cup pecans, chopped

1 cup butter, melted

Whipped topping

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

Grease bottom of 9 x 13 pan

Combine pumpkin, evaporated milk, eggs, sugar, pumpkin pie spice & salt in a large bowl.

When its all mixed together, pour mixture in pan.

Sprinkle dry cake mix evenly over the pumpkin mixture. Top with Pecans.

Drizzle melted butter evenly on top of the cake.

Bake at 350 degrees F for 50 to 55 minutes or until golden. I've had it cook pretty fast sometimes than others so make sure you check it early.

Let it cool completely & than take the cool whip and evenly place it on top.

Enjoy.

When your not sitting & enjoying this pumpkin crunch make sure you refrigerate it. (:

5 ways to a thankful heart.

Stepping away from fashion & beauty for a little bit today. Since Thanksgiving is just around the corner, and I feel like this whole world has been surrounded by negativity lately.
Its everywhere you turn.
It sucks the joy right out of your life. It can consume you.
I wanted to share my top five ways in How to find a thankful heart in a broken world.

 Photo via Jenny Highsmith

1. Prayer.  I'm human, I sin, I fall short, I stumble & fall each day.
Pray for a thankful heart.
God knows we can't do this on our own. Sometimes it's hard because we choose to see the bad things that are happening around us but a true testament to your faith is even through those painful times, you CHOOSE to have a thankful heart & trust in God's plan.

2. Positive attitude, there is always something to be thankful for. Even something as simple as clean water, a warm bed to sleep in, or shoes to wear & all the little things that we use everyday, that we don't even think twice about. Start there.

3. Take a Step Back, don't rush. When your rushing to get laundry done, or have a clean house, & dinner on the table, sometimes those small moments that make you thankful in life will slip right through your fingertips.

4. Write it down. Write down what your thankful for. Remind yourself that you are very blessed in every area of your life. Make yourself daily reminders all over your house. Do it as a challenge with your family to write down one thing they are thankful for each day.  I can't help but smile right now thinking of my son getting asked what he was thankful for & he wrote "Mom, Dad, & Cereal." I'm glad me & cereal are in the same boat....but seriously it melts my heart hearing that.
I love it.

5. Pinterest, take a break from it.
Seriously..
Pinterest can be such a blessing but sometimes you just need a break. When I spend a little too much time on Pinterest instead of being thankful for what I do have.... like my perfect husband (my husband clearly edits all my blog posts & I decided to leave it because it made me smile) ...Anyways back to what I was saying instead of being thankful for what I do have, I'm concentrating on things I don't have or things I wish I had.

This is more of a reminder for me to strive a little bit harder each day to choose to have a thankful heart.

Oversized Scarf.

Happy Friday!
We made it to the weekend.
Hallelujah.

I don't have much going on this weekend, but the real chaos begins next week.
My husbands 28th birthday is Wednesday, Thanksgiving Thursday. Black Friday... Friday. Then comes my 7 year wedding anniversary on the 28th of November.
SEVEN YEARS.
Where has time gone?
Seriously.
I may or may not be sharing a little bit about what I've learned in our short 7 years marriage on the blog so stay tuned. (:

Today I wanted to share that Target's dollar ($3, $5, & $7) spot scarves have been restocked. If you are looking for an affordable gift or extra stocking stuffer for someone, this scarf would be perfect.
One of my favorite accessories this time of year is an oversized scarf. My husband laughs at me and says "Why don't you just wear our comforter around your neck." haha I can't help it. I love how warm and cozy they make me feel.

Scarf (Similar)  | Long sleeve (similar) | Jeans | Bag

I haven't needed a scarf much this year since we are getting spoiled over here in the midwest with these 70 degree days. It's so strange I'm listening to christmas music early with my car windows down.
Not complaining one bit.

Well guys, this post today was short & sweet. I pretty much just wanted to say run to Target & grab yourself one of these scarves before they are all gone. (:

I hope everyone has a nice & relaxing weekend.
Hope to see you Monday.

Thanksgiving Outfit Idea

I can't believe we have one more Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
November is flying by and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

I will say I'm pretty excited for Black Friday shopping.
Does anyone else go?
Or Do you sit in the comfort of your own home on cyber Monday?
Last year there was some pretty good deals, but honestly every time I go I never end up getting what I went out for. It always amazes me when people can get their whole christmas list done and I'm over here like "Yeah.. I found a hat.. that I've seen at Target a million times but now I have to buy it because it's black Friday."

I wanted to share with you one of my Thanksgiving outfit ideas.
I love a cozy cardigan as much as the next girl, I think they are perfect for the holidays & all the festivities that come with it. Especially for Thanksgiving when you devour every bit of that amazing meal you get just once a year and... you at least want to be comfortable while doing it.

I decided to pair this cardigan with a dressier top underneath but then kept it pretty casual by wearing comfortable jeans. I love when you have a pattern in your top you really don't need to add much for your outfit to come together.

Cardigan (Similar) // Top // Jeans // Hat // Bag

What are your plans for Thanksgiving?
I hope it involves...lots of sweet potatoes, green bean casserole & some apple pie.
Do you guys have any special traditions that you do?
I would love to hear them, leave a comment below. (:

Anastasia Brow Wiz vs. Benefit Precisely My Brow

Hey guys!
How's Monday treating you?

I'm sharing my love for brows today. I'm sure some of you have seen the picture that has been floating around where you see a girl with no eyebrows. It basically just shows how important eyebrows are and how filling them in makes a world of difference on your face.
I couldn't agree more.
I wish I would've started filling my brows in earlier in life.

I would have to say the one thing that takes me the longest in the morning while doing my makeup is my eyebrows. I have thee funkiest brows. One is two toned and in need of some serious help. Then the other one lays semi nice, easier to fill, & to shape.
Does anyone else have this issue?
I'm always jealous of those girls who have thick beautiful brows, and don't need to do much work.
I wish.

I'm excited about this post because I love reading comparison posts on other blogs & I have always had a passion for makeup.  Now I get to share that passion with all of you. A big part of the reason why I started this little blog.

I decided to compare Anastasia Brow Wiz & Benefit Precisely my brow. I will say this was incredibly hard because they are so similar.
Since I discovered how important filling in your brows was I have always used Anastasia Brow Wiz. I even showed my love for this product by adding it to my beauty products I've been obsessing over. You can find that post here.  I just recently and by recently I mean 3 weeks ago, bought Benefit's Precisely, My Brow pencil.
I wanted to switch things up for my own excitement & my one and only complaint with Anastasia Brow wiz is the fact that it doesn't last very long. I feel like I was always having to replace it.

To start out I will say..
1. I love the fact that they both have a very fine tip to create hairlike strokes which to me is so important if your going for more of a natural looking brow.

2. They both have spoolies at the end to comb out your brows which is so nice but nothing beats  Anastasia brow wiz spoolie. It literally brushes every single hair in your brow.
It's amazing.
Benefit's spoolie is a tad bigger and just doesn't quite compare.

3. Anastasia offers a few more shades for your brows. It was really hard finding my right color  because I do have cooler tones in my brows. Both Benefits & Anastasia pencil matched fairly well. So I don't think you will have a problem matching your brows with either one of these products.

Side-note: They say if you want natural looking eyebrow go a shade lighter than your actual brows.

4. The packaging of Benefits precisely my brow is adorable. Any packaging by Benefit always takes the cake. It's so unique & fun. All of their products have the cutest packaging.

5. There is a little price difference with these two. Anastasia is $21 and Benefit comes in at $24.

6. Anastasia Brow wiz offers you more product for less money which is awesome but like I said earlier the product from what I have noticed goes fast. I think because it glides on so easy it makes the product come out faster so you end up wiping a lot more of it off when you use the spoolie to comb out your brows then you'd like.

On top of the two brow pencils, I use Anastasia Dip Brow & Benefits Gimme Brow. I love them both but Benefits Gimme Brow takes the win.
I love this product.
The fact that it adds color to each individual hair making your natural eyebrow look fuller and keeps each hair in place.
Anastasia Dip brow is great but you have to have a separate brush to apply. It lasts a very long time,  I haven't even made a dent in it and I've had it over a year.  So if I ever run low on my brow pencil, dip brow always comes in handy to hold me over until I can order another.

Again, I think anybody would be happy with any of these products but it just depends on what you are looking for. For an easy quick fix eyebrow, I would say Gimme brow would be your best option. If you are more precise about your brows I would choose an eyebrow pencil. If you are in the market for a new eyebrow pencil, I really think either of these two products you would love and not be disappointed.

Try them & tell me what you think.
If you already use one of these products tell me why you like them?
and...
if you have never filled in your brows.. you should try, it's a game changer.

I hope everyone has a great week!

Fair Oaks Farms.

Today I wanted to share a little glimpse into my weekend.
My in laws were in town visiting this past weekend.  Every time they come we have to make sure we hit up all their favorite restaurants that they don't have back in Texas. Some of their favorites include Portillos & Tomato  Bar.
If you haven't been to either of those .. Go.
If you come and visit the NWI/Chicago land area.. Go.
I think I gained 5 lb. but it is so worth it. We always have a good time when they are in town.
This visit we ended up making a half hour trip south to Fair Oaks Farms.
A giant farm that offers two adventures, either pig or dairy. We chose the pig adventure. They showed us pig life on the farm. It was so fun for the kids and for us adults too. We ended up eating dinner at the restaurant on Fair Oaks farm called The Farmhouse.
Amazing food.
I'm glad we went to the pig adventure and I ordered a burger. If we had gone to see the Cows, I don't think I would've enjoyed that burger the same.  HAHA
Almost all the meats came directly from their farm.
So fresh & so good.
We enjoyed every bit of that day. It helped that it was 67 degrees and sunny.
Have I said how much I love fall this year?

Funny story about this photo right here ^^They had a little dress up room for the kids to put on doctors coats and take the stethoscope to listen to the pigs heart. It's a fake pig of course but Liam was the first one and he put the stethoscope on and was trying to listen, about 30 seconds later he takes them off and says "Hey, this thing ain't real, its not even beeping!" HAHA  Can't get anything past him.

It's getting harder and harder for Liam especially being older now to say goodbye to his grandparents when they have to go back to Texas. It breaks my heart. I'm thankful both my boys have such a good relationship with them. Thank goodness for technology. Seriously, face time is a saving grace. Do any of you have to deal with living far away from loved ones? How do you deal with that? I would love hear from you!

How to make your nail polish last longer than a week.

I love getting a professional manicure but being a stay at home mom on a budget doesn't really allow me to do that so often. It's more of a treat every now and then.
To be completely honest, I used to paint my nails three times a week because what girl doesn't love having their nails nicely polished.  If I have the slightest chip, I pick at it until all my nail polish is off.
Also nothing is worse then when you think they are dry, you go touch something and it completely smudges.
So frustrating.
A couple people asked how I keep my nails nicely painted when I have two boys to chase after & I am constantly washing my hands. So I thought I would share the products I use to get a perfect DIY manicure at home that lasts for more than a week.

I decided to invest in a LED curing light.
Best investment I have made. It has already paid itself off awhile ago and has been such a time saver for a busy mom like myself.
I love the fact that I can just paint my nails, cure for 45 seconds each coat of polish I use and then I'm ready to go.
Now sometimes I will go get a professional manicure just for them to really push back my cuticles and shape my nails but honestly I can do all of that myself, I just like when someone else does it for me. (:

The light I use can actually be bought at Ulta. I will link it down below. I highly recommend it, for the price you can't beat it. I have had it for 3 months now and have had no issues (knock on wood).

I have used a lot of different brands of gel nail polish but by far my favorite is CND shellac. Mainly because the colors are beautiful and it lasts the longest.
A cheaper gel polish I've used and liked was Fingerpaints 1 step polish. This is sold at Sally's Beauty Supply for $10.49 a bottle. They always have sales going on but just for a price comparison CND Shellac goes for $15.46 a bottle. Which seems a bit steep for nail polish but when it lasts as long as it does, to me its worth it.

These three colors have been on repeat lately.
Aren't they pretty colors for fall?

So if you are thinking about getting a curing light because you like your nails painted like me, just do it.
You won't regret it.
By the way, I use it for a painting my toes too. (:

Let me know if you already use a gel nail set.
What colors are your favorite?
I'm a sucker for any nail polish colors.

Thanks for stopping by!
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend!

Summer to Fall.

Happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a great week!
This post will be short and sweet. Mainly because I have to go to Liam's parent show and tell in just a little bit.
This dress I am wearing is actually a summer dress that was bought awhile ago but I've just been finding new ways to wear it. I did pair it with a T-shirt tied in the front like this...

So cute right?
Apparently not on me.  haha
For some reason when I wore it, it made me look pregnant.
Some things just don't work for everyone.
Maybe I will try this with a cute pair of jeans.
You win some & you loose some.

Anyways back to the outfit.. I decided to make this summer dress "fallish". I wasn't ready to put it in the summer bin yet. Try doing this with some of your summer clothes and see what you can come up with. Its always fun making an old shirt or dress like new again.

Did I ever tell you guys my love for any type of hat or can you tell that almost every one of my pictures have some kind of hat. I just think you can have a plain ole T-shirt and jean outfit but add a cute hat and you have a completely different look. This hat is just from Target.
If you go before November 5th you can get 25% off with the cartwheel app.
Scroll down to see the links of what I'm wearing.

Hat // Choker // Button up (old) Similar here  // Dress (old) Love this one // Rainboots

That's all I have today. I hope you enjoyed, let me know if you did in the comments below or if you like seeing my posts make sure you sign up to get an email sent everytime I upload a new post!
Enjoy the rest of your week!
